PRESENTATION OUTLINE
1.
H-BOMB
It was estimated that the Hydrogen bomb would have the force of 1 million tons of TNT
The US and Soviet Union began a race to see which country could create the bomb first
On Nov. 1st, 1952 the US won the race when they let off the bomb
In 1953 the Soviets exploded their own bomb
2.
U-2 INCIDENT
In 1955 the CIA began making secret flights over other countries, using U-2 planes
By 1960, US officials grew nervous that the planes would be spotted, and Eisenhower wanted to stop the flights
The last flight was spotted and Francis G. Powers was sent to prison; Eisenhower denied that they had been spying
The Soviets had evidence, however, and Eisenhower finally admitted to it.
After refusing to apologize, Khrushchev called off the summit. After this, tension occurred between the Super Powers
