  • 2nd generation made candy corn and "royal buttercreams"
  • Company introduced Mint Wafers in 1898
  • 3rd and 4th generation introduced Jelly Beans

  • 1965 a flavor break through is made
  • Jelly beans infused with flavor in the center
  • Break through recipe inspired first 8 flavors
  • Root beer, Green Apple, Licorice, Cream Soda, Lemon, Tangerine, Cherry, etc
  • More flavors developed in 1980

Jelly belly

  • Mr. Jelly Belly a lovable character makes his first appearance
  • 1983 Jelly Belly Beans became first jelly beans in space 
  • New headquarters are built in Fairfield, California
  • Buttered Popcorn flavor introduced in 1989
  • 1996 the Jelly Belly name was stamped on every jelly bean

  • Gustav first built a confectionary business with his brothers  
  • It failed due to the economic depression
  • Gustav and his son started their own business shortly after
  • Became 4 generations of a family business
  • Later on Chairman of the board wins ISM Lifetime Achievement Awardm

  • He's made new types of candy not know if they would be liked
  • Passed business down 4 generations

  • That's when he decided to make his own business
  • He moved his family to continue is dream

  • An expert on strategy
  • Planned out his business
  • Since it did well he passed it down to his son
  • Made new candies to keep people interested in the company

  • The company was passed down from generation to generation
  • Each generation had to make the company run smoothly

  • Realistic confidence in one's own judgment 
  • Each owner at the time needed to believe in themselves
  • Needed to know they were able to keep the company growing
