No, we didn't live in an igloo, but our house was built on stilts due to flooding.

I spent the majority of my time outside hiking and exploring new places.

My neighbor owned a dog sled team and raced them in the Iditarod. He trained them in the summer by driving behind them on a 4-wheeler.

Flying in and out

The only way to get anything or anybody into our village was by plane.

Seeing the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) was a common sight, but still amazing every time.

Traditional clothing is usually only worn for celebrations. However, I did learn how to make my own Qaspeq (light decorative jacket).

All of our meals consisted of moose or salmon.

Berries are considered to be a delicacy. Everyone gets excited when the berries are ready. The natives use them in making, akutaq, eskimo ice-cream.
