  • Light, mid and dark tones
  • Create depth, shadow and highlights
  • Show 3D form, texture and detail
  • Think of a gradient from light to dark
  • Tone is in painting, drawing, photography and sculpture

TODAYS LEARNING ACTIVITIES

  • Create your own greyscale tonal rag scale
  • Make notes on this with the luggage tags
  • Make sure you note light, mid and dark tones
  • Give some examples of what each tone may indicate
  • Extension: make small pencil sketches using your tonal range
