GREAT HORNED OWL

Appearance

  • Very Large, powerful owl with prominent ear tufts.
  • The facial disc is rust-brown to ochre-buff.
  • The upper parts are brownish.
  • The outer webs of the primaries are brownish-buff while the inner are much paler.

Food Chain

  • From high perches they dive down to the grown with winds folded, before snatching prey.
  • They also hunt by walking on the grown or wading into the water.
  • Prey may includes owls except snowy owl.
  • A Great Horned Owl can take 2 or 3 prey at a time.

Habitats

  • It was first seen in the Virginia Colonies.
  • They have adapted to many different places and climates.They life mostly in desserts, dense forest and plains to city parks.
  • The Great Horned owls usaly are nocturnal.

More Facts

  • Nesting season only last January to Febuary.
  • Male does a hoot to signal a female.
  • Female does a kroo sound to signal a male.
  • Great Horned owls steel other birds nest for their yong.
