The Great Depression was a very tragic time in world history. During this time the world was going through the worst economic slump in the U.S. history. Many businesses and factory's were shut down, and many people were left jobless. Families were forced to live on streets and depended on the government to provide food. This wasn't a time that you would want to live in.

When Did The Great Depression Start?

The Great Depression started on the day of October 29, 1929, when values dropped dramatically. The Great Depression happened in the 1920's and ended in 1939. That is nearly 20 years of many people unemployed, and families living in very bad conditions.

The Great Depression started on the day of October 29, 1929, when values dropped dramatically. The Great Depression happened in the 1920's and ended in 1939. That is nearly 20 years of many people unemployed, and families living in very bad conditions.

What changes happened?
During this time Herbert Hoover (38 president of the United States) was the president and then in 1932 the president Franklin D. Roosevelt was elected. The reason was because of the many unemployed, and declining output led to the election of Franklin D. Roosevelt. Also the many people that worked for years, and farmers that would sell their product dropped dramatically and many were left jobless (some even moneyless)

How I feel about The Great Depression
In my opinion the Great Depression wasn't a time that many would want to live in. Many were living in bad conditions, and I couldn't imagine living in that time period. Having families around the country with little income some even hade no income, and this led to having the government provide and support the families. I believe that president Herbert Hoover should have told the country what was going on with the unstable prices, and maybe they could have somehow stopped the Great Depression from happening.

HOW DID THIS HAPPEN?

  • Many were loaning money and if stock prices dropped below a certain level a "margin call would be made. Many people that loaned didn't have the money to pay back with and that led to the Great Depression.
  • Date:October 24,1929 will be remembered as Black Tuesday, this is because that day was when panic began.
  • Date:October 29, 1929 is when values dropped dramatically, and farming product halted. Herbert Hoover quickly called Labor leads of Washington to cut wages and lay off workers
  • Led to many unemployed, and many without homes because of no income for the family to pay for a home.
