A FULL SENTENCE HAS 3 COMPONENTS

  • A subject- The dog sought shelter from the storm
  • A verb- Mary proudly carried her bucket of fish
  • A complete thought- Bobby yelled

SUBJECT- VERB AGREEMENT

  • Subjects agree with their verbs in number (singular or plural)
  • The butterfly is colorful

APOSTROPHES

  • Shows possession
  • Men's, women's, and children's
  • If more than one owner: womens'

CONTRACTIONS

  • less formal
  • Less emphatic
  • Less urgent
  • It's, you've, you're

PUTTING TWO SENTENCES TOGETHER

  • Use two full sentences
  • Use a coma and the word "and" in betweeen

IRREGULAR VERBS

  • Determine the tense
  • Past
  • Present
  • Perfect
  • Future

PARALLELISM

  • Stays with the trend within the sentence
  • Hesterday she walked,talked, and ran all day

TRANSITION WORDS

  • Expectations fulfilled:
  • Consequently, thus, and therefore
  • Expectations violated:

DESCRIPTIVE CLAUSE

  • Describes what comes immediately before or after

SUBJECTIVE MOOD

  • Dependent on the beginning of the sentence
  • Starting with 'if', 'suppose', or 'i wish' use 'were' as the verb
