Children should be able to:

  • Ask and answer questions about the details in a story
  • Describe characters, setting, and major events
  • Retell stories
  • Describe the words or phrases that suggest feelings
  • Identify who is telling the story

  • Know the difference between books that tell stories and books that give information
  • Use the illustrations in the story to help discuss characters and setting
  • Compare the adventures of characters in stories

cHILDREN SHOULD BE ABLE TO:

  • Write opinion, expository and narrative pieces
  • Give at least 2 details
  • Have a topic sentence
  • Have a conclusion
  • Use capital letters and punctuation correctly.

Children should be able to:

  • draw, model, write, and explain thinking
  • add and subtract within 20
  • tell time
  • identify shapes
  • solve equations using an understanding of place value (54 + 12 = 6 tens and 6 ones)

TIPS FOR A GREAT START TO THEIR DAY

  • Students coming to breakfast should arrive at the front door at 8:15.
  • Students not coming for breakfast should line up at their assigned door for 8:30
  • Pack a healthy snack - breakfast and lunch are hours apart

TIPS FOR A GREAT START TO THEIR DAY

  • Teachers mark students late between 8:30 and 8:45- after the office marks them late.
  • Every day new material is covered- if you are absent you missed something
  • If you plan on traveling, please travel during school vacations.
