GOVERNMENT OF ROME

THE START OF THE GOVERNMENT

  • Rome was ruled from a series of kings for 200 years.
  • The people of Rome were tired of kings so they through out the last one.
  • They said they wanted no more kings.
  • Then the Republic began.

THE REPUBLIC

  • The Roman Republic was ruled by a group of men.
  • The senates and the consuls.
  • Julius Ceaser almost ended the Republic because he wanted a lot more power.
  • The republic lasted about 500 years.
  • Emperors tried to take complete charge of Rome but the senate didn't let them.

THE SENATE

  • the senates are retired magistrates and know a lot about how to govern.
  • There were 600 men in the senate.
  • In 3d and 2d cent BC Rome sent out armies and fought and they made treaties.
  • If you had a lot of power and land it was easier to become part of the senate.

AFTER THE REPUBLIC

  • The whole Rome was ruled by an emperor. Augustus.
  • After his death popular elections all about dissapeared.
  • Power wasn't located in the old republican forum anymore.
  • Power was in the imperial palace. In Rome.
  • The imperial palace is where the emperor of all of Rome lived.
