THE SPEICAL FEATUrES OF CATHEDRAL

  • Pointed arches- they are stronger and can hold more
  • Flying buttress- to support the pointed arch so it doesn't fall
  • Higher and thinner- the walls are higher to be close to God and thinner for more space
  • Stained glass windows- brings light in room and tell the story of God to
  • people who couldn't read

HISTORY

  • Abbot Suger of St. Denis set out to rebuild the choir of his abbey
  • church. The design he employed represented the birth of a new
  • style of architecture, the French style, which was later called Gothic
  • Most of the gothic cathedral were built in France.

Bourges Cathedral

  • The background is the Bourges Cathedral
  • Paintings- usually frescos of the crucfixication
  • The glass paintings- they added light and beauty but also showed the intrustions
  • of the church.
  • I picked this cathedral because it was one of the first cathedral

INTRESTING FACTS ABOUT GOTHIC CATHEDRAL

  • Interesting Fact: Before a person died, the bishop or one of the church workers
  • can either dye it, paint it, or add some coloring to make the glass a certain color.
