The Biggest Question Ever

  • "...Men and brethren, what shall we do?"
  • "...Lord, What do You want me to do?"
  • "...Sirs, what must I do to be saved?"
  • All 3 of these questions concern the will of God in the lives of sinful men.

What is Sin?

  • Romans 1:18-21
  • Paul argues the Gentiles were guilty of sin b/c they knew God, but they didn't honor Him as God.
  • They were ignoring God and living as they wished.
  • Psalm 14:1
  • "Fool" means one that is morally deficient.

Sin and Us

  • We all have sinned.
  • Honored our own selfish desires over God
  • Romans 3:23
  • Spiritual separation between man and God
  • What if our physical life ends during this separation? II Thessalonians 1:6-7

Luke 15:3-7

Luke 15:3-7

  • Sheep has strayed from the flock & left the protection of the shepherd.
  • Shepherd would provide good pasture and water for the sheep.
  • But alone and away from the shepherd, the sheep faces wolves and other dangers.

Shepherd and Sheep

  • The love and concern for the lost sheep leads the shepherd out to look for the lost sheep.
  • The shepherd looks until he finds the lost sheep.
  • He is persistent.
  • The shepherd is overjoyed to find and return the lost sheep!

Parable of the Lost Sheep

  • Shepherd = God
  • Lost sheep = Sinners
  • God is the Great shepherd. His love and concern leads to his desire for all the lost to be saved.
  • He is persistent, never giving up.
  • He rejoices when the sinner is saved!

Is There a Solution?

  • Romans 3:23
  • We should all be extremely interested in if there is a solution to the problem of sin.
  • Romans 5:8
  • John 3:16
  • God's love, Christ's sacrifice, and our belief (actions) are the solution!

So What Must I Do?

The Salvation Process

Ephesians 2:8-9

  • Salvation is a gift from God to you
  • You cannot earn it
  • You can't be "good enough" to deserve it
  • We are all sinners.
  • God still offers salvation to all!

"By Grace Through Faith"

  • Paul said we are saved by grace through faith.
  • Grace is God's part
  • Faith is man's part
  • Paul's says if God saves us by His grace it will be b/c we have faith, not b/c we have worked or deserve to be saved.
  • So how do we show our faith?

HEAR

  • We must hear the Word of God & understand it.
  • Romans 10:17
  • "So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ."

Believe

  • John 6:28-29
  • Romans 10:9
  • Hebrews 11:6
  • John 1:1-4

REPENTANCE

  • Repent = Change
  • Luke 13:3
  • Acts 17:30
  • What are we to change?
  • What must be different?

CONFESSION

  • Confession - an act of confessing; acknowledgement; admission
  • We must acknowledge that Jesus is Lord.
  • Romans 10:9-10
  • John 6:69 Peter made his confession of faith in Jesus

BAPTISM

  • Mark 16:16
  • Matthew 28:19
  • Acts 2:38
  • Acts 22:16
  • Baptism is an immersion in water.
  • Romans 6:4 "Buried in Baptism"

LIVE FAITHFULLY

  • The journey begins!
  • Revelation 2:10
  • Live like Jesus and withstand the temptations of the devil.
  • 24 hours a days, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year!

Romans 6:3-4
