PRESENTATION OUTLINE
DNA: deoxyribonucleic acid
- a self-replicating material present in nearly all living organisms
- the main constituent of chromosomes. It is the carrier of genetic information.
- the fundamental and distinctive qualities of something, especially when regarded as unchangeable
MANY THINGS HAVE QUALITIES IN WHICH THEY NATURALLY GLOW IN THE DARK
DUE TO RECENT EXPERIMENTS
ALLOWING US TO MAKE IT A POSSIBILITY TO MAKE GLOW IN THE DARK SPECIMENS
KOREAN SCIENTIST LEE BYEONG-CHUN LED AN EXPERIMENT
RUBY PUPPY – RUPPY FOR SHORT – THE WORLD’S FIRST TRANSGENIC DOG
LEE THEN LED A SECOND EXPERIMENT A YEAR LATER ON:
TEGON HAD A BIT DIFFERENT RESULTS FROM RUPPY
- Tegon’s fluorescent protein can be turned on or off with a drug – they just add it to the dog’s food
- Instead of glowing red as Ruppy had, Tegon’s fluorescent protein glows green
THE EXPERIMENTS WERE PREFORMED BY:
- Taking the nucleus of a skin cell
- Adding the fluorescent protein gene to the nucleus
- Then swapping out a nucleus for a modified one
- The egg was left to divide in a petri dish for a few hours
- Then it was implanted into a surrogate mother
