Early Life

  • his family were all fishermen and coastal traders
  • Garibaldi was a sailor for 10 years
  • in 1832 he became a certified merchant captain
  • 1833-1834 he served in Italian navy

  • married to Francesca Armosino, Giuseppina Raimondi, and Anita Garibaldi (3 times throughout his life)
  • he had 7 children named; Ricciotti, Clelia, Teresita, Rosa, Anna Maria, and Rosita
  • his father's name was Giovanni Domenico Garibaldi
  • his mother was Maria Rosa Nicoletta Raimondi

Rebellion in 1834

  • was part of a failed mutiny
  • tried to take over Genoa
  • plan failed

War of 1866

  • traveled to England with an army of volunteers to battle the Austrians
  • he won many battles but was told to withdraw
  • in 1870 he was also stopped when he entered papal territory

  • 1861- Sicily and Naples vote to join Italy, are successful
  • 1866- Italy and Prussia ally against Austria and gain Venetia
  • 1870- Italian troops occupy Rome
