GILA RIVER

The Gila River is located along the southwestern states of Arizona and New Mexico.

The Gila River near the Colorado River below Phoenix is either at a trickle or dry. The mouth of the river is into the Colorado River near Yuma, Arizona. The source of the Gila comes from the Black Mountains in New Mexico.

The Gila River is 1,200 feet wide all the way down to 150ft with a depth of two feet. The Gila River is 650 miles long.

The Gila River Indian Reservation was established in 1859. In 1939 the Congress established the Gila River Indian Community. The reservation is 583 square miles in area located in Arizona.

The Gila River is in the middle of a desert so there are only a few natural disasters with no hurricanes or tsunamis. The Gila River supply's fresh water were there is any. You can also travel by boat. The temperature is 90°F in the summer and below 50°F in the winter. The water can also be used for irrigation.

The Gila River served as part of the border between Mexico and America before America extended.
