  • Basically Hitler's body guards
  • Started out as a humble protection unit
  • Later grew into a HUGE division of 38 combat divisons
  • Over 950,000 men

  • Intensive training
  • 3 objectives; Physical fitness, small arms proficiency, & political indoctrination
  • 1/3 people failed to pass
  • After selected; recruits would be sent to specialist schools, for more training

  • Nazi Germany's feared police force
  • During WW2; commanded by Heinrich Himmler
  • had its own courts and effectively acted as judge, jury and frequently executioner.

  • Basically watched/hunted people,to make sure they werent a threat
  • Threats: Jews, Communists, Jehovah Witnesses, homosexuals
  • There greatest weapon was FEAR; was said they were everywhere
  • Power of arrest, interrogation and incarceration.
  • At the Nuremberg Trials, the Gestapo was declared a criminal organisation.

  • The Gestapo was designated as the fourth branch now headed by Heinrich
  • The Gestapo followed Hittlers armies into every country during the conquest of Europe
  • Gestapo was under the control of Heinrich Himmler who contolled all police units within Nazi Germany
  • In 1942 the a Gestapo took things a step further via Hitlers Night and Fog decree.

SS JOB DESCRIPTION

  • The SS which stands for schutzstaffel formed on April 1995 as a section of the SA and a personal bodyguard
  • On January 1929 Heinrich Himmler was appointed leader of the SS
  • From 1932 the SS wore black shirts with a runic symbol SS on the collar to distinguish from the SA
