BY:ALEX FULLERTON/JORDAN THITHAVONG
2.
HORTEN 229
It was one of the first jet powered aircraft ever.
Numerous technical problems beset the project and the only wing to fly with jet power crashed during its third test.
We have made it better by putting the wings on a fuselage.
1/3/1944
3.
TIGER TANK
It was one of the most feared weapons of its time (WW1) with its 88mm turret and 120mm mantlet armor and 100mm frontal hull armor.
We have made tanks faster and with more armor.
4.
HOLE PUNCH
It was dreamed up by Matthias Theel and created by Friedich Soennecken on 11/14/1886.
It's better now because most of them have 3 instead of 1.
5.
FANTA
During WW2 America put an embargo on Coca-Cola imports then Coca-Cola in Germany made Fanta which is made from pomace and whey.
It's better because there are more flavors and it's healthier.
6.
COFFEE FILTER
In 1908, Dresden housewife Melitta Bentz created the coffee filter after her coffee tasted over-brewed and bitter.
They have gotten better by being thinner which would lead to less trees being cut down.
7.
ACCORDION
It was dreamt up and designed in Berlin in 1822 by Christian Friedrich Ludwig Buschmann.
Now they are more durable.
8.
THE CHRISTMAS TREE
Emerging during the German Renaissance, it began as a decorative expression of Christmas before going gangbusters in late 19th century.
Now there are artificial trees for better storing and saving more money.
9.
ELECTRIC DRILL
The non-portable version of the electric drill was created in Australia in 1889.
A few years later, in 1895, it was 'recreated' into a portable version by Wilhelm Emil Fein.
Now they are more powerful, last longer, and have a better battery.
10.
MODERN FOOTBALL CLEATS
It was the Adidas founder Adi Dassler who invented the screw-in stud technology in 1954.
Nowadays most don't have screw studs and it's more convenient.
11.
THE TAXIMETER
Invented by Friedrich Wilhelm Gustav Bruhn in Berlin in 1891.
This is a handy tool for taxi drivers to know exactly how much the rider has to pay.
