Introduction
This project tests whether or not certain microbial growth happens more in certain environments. I tested nine different environments, and each one is unique. They each have different sizes and sometimes shapes. I want to be a microbiologist when I grow up, so for me this a very interesting subject. I'm here to show you a few environments I have charted and tested.

Question:

Do certain environments effect microbial growth?

Hypothesis:
My hypothesis is that yes, certain environments will affect microbial growth.

Materials

  • Nutrient agar plate
  • Permanent marker
  • heavy duty tape or saran wrap
  • lab notebook
  • camera

Procedure

  • First, I need to identify 9 sites where to put the plates.
  • Then, at each site place two plates.
  • Use the permanent marker two put the location on the bottom of the plate.
  • Leave plates exposed for three hours.
  • At the end of three hours, cover plates with saran wrap or tape.

Procedure

  • Place plates in a single location over a period of 2-3 weeks.
  • Over the course of three weeks, collect data in your lab notebook.
  • At the end of three weeks, make charts of your data.
  • Keep the plates during the duration of your project.

Conclusion
My hypothesis was that yes, different environments would yield different microbial colonies. In fact, no different environments do not necessarily have different colonies. the rooms that I charted and tested show that the majority of the plates have the same type of colony, though maybe in different areas of the plat and a certain number of that kind. I think this turned out like it did because the rooms are all in the same bigger environment, the house. So, naturally, with all the same people living in the house, some of the colonies might be the same.
