  • Went through many generals
  • Started to become an effective force after Valley Forge

Lexington and Concord

  • April 19, 1775
  • The British marched through the night to capture colonist leaders and destroy arms
  • At lexington they confronted the colonists
  • Routed the colonist and starting the war
  • Then they marched to Concord and the colonists regrouped and reinforced

  • The colonists fortified Breed's hill
  • The British Regulars under Israel Putnam
  • Colonists got the top of the hill
  • British had to fight uphill
  • Arguable who won the battle
