BIRTH

  • George Calvert was born in 1579 in Kiplin, Richmondshire

DEATH

  • George Calvert died on April 15, 1579
  • He died in Lincoln inn fields, London.
  • Calvert died five weeks before the new Charter was sealed
  • He left the settlement of Maryland to his son, Cecil.

  • George Calvert was an English Statesman.
  • He also projected the founding of Maryland.

EDUCATION

  • Calvert was educated at Trinity College in Oxford

REASON FOR INVOLVEMENT IN THE COLONY

  • He was interested in the new world colonies
  • First he was interested for commercial reasons
  • But then saw it as refugee for English Catholics
  • George Calvert died before he was able to live in the colony.

RELIGION

  • Calvert was raised as a catholic.
  • He converted to Anglican under pressure.
  • Converted back to Roman Catholic later in life.
