PRESENTATION OUTLINE
1.
POINT
NAMES OF A LOCATION
Ex: point b
Lines are connected from point to point to create a shape
2.
PLANE
A perfectly flat surface that extends forever in all directions
Ex: points go on these and are plotted on these
3.
RAY
A part of a line that starts at one point and extends forever in one direction
Ex: sunlight starts at the sun and goes forever
4.
ACUTE ANGLE
An angle smaller than 90°
Ex: pizza
5.
COMPLEMENTARY ANGLES
Measures that add up to 90°
Ex. An intersection or a cross
6.
CONGRUENT
Figures that have the same size and shape
Ex. The sides of a rubric cube
7.
PARALLEL LINES
To lines in a plane that never meet
Ex: perfectly straight train tracks
8.
TRANSVERSAL
A line that intersects any two or more other lines
The wood on train tracks connecting the to metal pieces
9.
ALTERNATE INTERIOR ANGLES
Angles that are congruent on the inside of two parallel lines
Ex: the inside points of an N
10.
ACUTE TRIANGLES
A triangle that has three acute angles
Ex: Doritos
All the angles are less than 90°
11.
OBTUSE TRIANGLE
A triangle with one obtuse angle
An obtuse angle is an angle in between 90° and 180°
Ex: a hand held fan
12.
ISOSCELES TRIANGLE
Has at least 2 congruent sides and 2 congruent angles
Ex: a coat hanger
13.
REGULAR POLYGONS
All sides and angles are congruent.
Ex: a regular octagon would be the shape of a stop sign
14.
LINE
It is perfectly straight and extends in both directions forever
When you draw a line you put arrows pointing in both directions to signify that they go on forever.
Ex. A line with arrows on the ends
15.
SEGMENT
The part of a line between two points
Ex. Ruler
16.
RIGHT ANGLE
An angle that measures 90°
We put a box in side the angle to signify this
Ex. The inside angles of a basket ball court
17.
OBTUSE ANGLE
An angle that measure in between 90° and 180°
Ex. Boomarang
18.
SUPPLEMENTARY ANGLES
Angles that measure up to 180°
Ex. 2 quarters of a pie
19.
VERTICAL ANGLES
A pair of opposite congruent angles formed by 2 intersecting lines
Ex. 2 sides of a rail road crossing sign
20.
PERPENDICULAR LINES
Lines that intersect at 90° angles
Ex. Power lines(wire hits pole)
21.
Untitled Slide
22.
CORRESPONDING ANGLES
Matching angles of two or more polygons
Ex. 2 equal slices of cake
23.
ALTERNATE EXTERIOR ANGLES
A pair of angles on he outer sides of two lines cut by a transversal on opposite sides of the transversal
Ex. Parking lots
24.
RIGHT TRIANGLE
A triangle with one angle that measures 90° degrees
Ex. Half a sandwhich
25.
EQUILATERAL TRIANGLE
A triangle with 3 congruent sides and angles
Ex. Caution sign
26.
SCALENE TRIANGLE
A triangle with all different sides and angles
Ex. Sail on a boat
Nick Kenrick.
27.
IRREGULAR POLYGONS
Polygons without all equal sides and angles
Ex. An irregular octagon would look like the picture above.
