CHEYANNE DIESSNER

HKAKABO RAZI MOUNTAIN

  • 1 earthquake every 50 years with 7.0 Richter
  • Highest mountain in Myanmar
  • Before 1993, foreigners weren't allowed
  • Perennially ice capped

MEKONG RIVER

  • Flows 2,600 miles from inland China to South China Sea
  • Approx. 80% of Cambodians' protein source
  • Antonia de Faria was the 1st person from Europe to see Mekong
  • 60 million people live in the Mekong basin

GREAT VICTORIA DESERT

  • 3rd largest desert in the world
  • 1st crossed by European explorer Ernest Giles in 1875
  • Extremely large amount of vegetation for a desert
  • Named after queen Victoria

GREAT DIVIDING RANGE

  • 3rd longest land-based range in the world
  • Few mountains rise higher than 5,000 feet
  • Force moisture bearing winds to rise and shed rain before moving inland
  • Consists of complex mountain ranges, plateaus, & upland areas

BROTHERS VOLCANO

  • Active submarine volcano
  • Oval shaped caldera summit is 3-3.5 km wide
  • 1350 meters below sea level
  • Dome of volcano rises 350 m. above sea floor

FIJI

  • Most mountains are dormant or extinct volcanoes
  • 194,000 square km big but only 10% of that is land
  • Mt. Tomanivi (1324 m.) is the highest point on Fiji
  • 50 groups of hot springs that are enjoyed by tourists

MICRONESIA

  • Fertile and rich in minerals
  • Largest islands are Palau, Yap, Chuuk, Pohnpei, & Kosrae
  • Prance from high and mountainous to low coral atolls
  • Volcanic outcroppings on Pohnpei, Kosrae, & Chuuk

EASTER ISLAND

  • It is only 63 square km
  • Formed by 3 extinct volcanoes
  • Became over populated and resources were used up
  • They have moai statues (the big heads)

OHIO RANGE, ANTARCTICA

  • In Transantarctic range
  • Large snow topped plateau with steep cliffs and flat top mts
  • Central part of range is occupied by Buckeye Table (plateau)
  • The range is 30 miles long and 10 miles wide

PHILIPPINES

  • Over 7,100 islands
  • Only 7% of islands re bigger than a mile
  • Highest peak is Mount Apo (9,690 ft)
  • Coastline of 10,850 miles (2x the size of California's)
