BAHRAIN

  • Near the western shores of the Persian Gulf
  • Oil was discovered in the 1930's
  • served as a Western air base during the Persian Gulf War in 1991 and the Iraq War in 2003
  • Government is a constitutional monarchy

CYPRUS

  • Third largest island in the Mediterranean
  • Has a Republic government
  • President is Nikos Anastasiadis
  • The highest peak is Mount Olympus at 6,406 ft

DEAD SEA

  • It is the lowest elevation on land
  • It is very easy to float on the Dead Sea
  • It is about 8.6 times saltier than the ocean
  • It constantly spits up asphalt

EUPHRATES RIVER

  • One of the most important rivers in the world
  • It is1,740 miles long
  • Ar-Raqqah and Mayadin are two cities along it
  • It's mouth is at Shatt al-Arab

JORDAN RIVER

  • Source is in the Anti-Lebanon
  • 156 miles long
  • Israel borders it to the west, while Jordan lies to its east
  • Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan takes its name from this river

TIGRIS RIVER

  • Source is in Turkey
  • Mouth is at Shatt al-Arab
  • Diyarbakir is a city by it
  • It is 1,150 miles long
