PRESENTATION OUTLINE

PARTS OF THE BRAIN

CEREBRAL CORTEX

  • This controls voluntary muscles
  • One side is busy doing math and speaking
  • While the othe side is busy with colors, shapes, and music
  • Main job: sensory integration and thought
  • Voluntary movement, language, reasoning, and perception

THALAMUS

  • Sends information to the cerebral cortex
  • Plus sleep and consciousness
  • Main job: sensory integration and motor integration

CEREBELLUM

  • Is at the back of the brain.
  • Helps to make smooth movement
  • Example: walking, running, writing
  • Main job: proper movement

HIPPOCAMPUS

  • Works with the cerebral cortex to create memories
  • Help you remember how to navigate
  • Main job: creates memories

HYPOTHALAMUS

  • Its like a thermostat for your body
  • Sends signals to your body when its too hot or cold
  • You sweat when its hot and shiver when its cold
  • It also controls your hunger, thirst and heart
  • Main jobs: body temperature, hunger, thirst, and circadian rhythmys

CORPUS CALLOSUM

  • This connects the left and right part of the brain
  • Connects the left and right brain to be able to communicate
  • Main job: connecting the left and right part of the brain

PITUTARY GLAND

  • Smallest part of the brain
  • Controls how fast we grow
  • Releases hormones to help us grow
  • Controls how much water and sugar there is in our body.Helps our metabolism
  • Main job:Digestion of food, breathing, our blood circulation, and hormones

BRAIN STEM

  • Is a collection of 3 areas(medulla, pons, and the midbrain)
  • Connects the brain to the spinal cord. Controls involuntary muscles
  • Main job: breathing, heart rate, and blood pressure

SPINAL CORD

  • Information travels to and from the brain through the spinal cord
  • Main job: sending information from the brain to the rest of the body

NERVOUS SYTEM

  • Controls your body
  • Ex. Heart rate breathings eyes
  • Lungs and muscles

NERVOUS SYSTEM:CALM

  • Eyes:constricted pupils
  • Heart:beats slowly
  • Lungs:constricted airways
  • Muscles:reduced blood flow

NERVOUS SYSTEM:IN SITUATION

  • Eyes:dilated pupils
  • Heart:eats faster and stronger
  • Lungs:relaxed airways to breathe in deeper
  • Muscles:increases blood flow
