TOURETTE'S SYNDROME

BY SHANE FORRESTER

TOURETTE'S SYNDROME

  • The cause of this disease is not exactly known, but it has something to do with neurotransmitters
  • How you inherit this disease is not exactly known either, but genetic and environmental factors has a role in it.
  • There are no physical features affected by this disease, but this disease makes you make involuntary movements and sounds or in this case, motor tics(physical movements), and vocal tics(involuntary sounds)
  • Tourette syndrome was diagnosed among 3 of every 1,000 children 6 through 17 years of age living in the United States in 2007; this represents approximately 148,000 U.S. children.
  • People who have Tourette Syndrome have hard times in life, but eventually it will get better for them, because when people with TS will be able to control it better when they get older so it will get better for them

5 FACTS ON TOURETTE SYNDROME

  • Although some movements caused by this are involuntary, Tourette syndrome can be controlled
  • Although if they build it up to much then they may have to express their tics against their will.
  • Also, some diseases relate to Tourette syndrome like ADHD which people who have also make involuntary movements and sounds.
  • TS is diagnosed by children have motor tics(physical movements) and vocal tics(Involuntary sounds).
  • I found interesting that ADHD is related to tics, if I just heard about it and learned about it I would have never guess they're related
