The General Assembly (GA) is the main deliberative, policymaking and representative organ of the UN.
Comprising all 193 members of the UN.
COMMITTEES
- First Committee (Disarmament & International Security)
- Second Committee (Economic & Financial)
- Third Committee (Social, Humanitarian & Cultural)
- Fourth Committee (Special Political & Decolonization)
- Fifth Committee (Administrative & Budgetary)
Decisions on important questions, such as those on peace and security, admission of new members and budgetary matters, require a two-thirds majority
First assembly was in 1946 by the president Paul Henri at Belgium
The Assembly meets in regular session intensively from September to December each year, and thereafter as required.
The subsidiary organs of the General Assembly are divided into categories: Boards, Commissions, Committees, Councils and Panels, and Working Groups and others.
