WHAT IS A YOUTH GANG?

  • The group has three or more members, generally aged 12-24.
  • Members share an identity, typically linked to a name, and often other symbols.
  • The group has some permanence and a degree of organization
  • The group is involved in an elevated level of criminal activity
  • A gang does not have to be a group, one plus two= a gang

THE LATIN KINGS

LATIN KINGS

  • The largest and one of the most organized Hispanic street gangs in the United States.
  • The gang's primary source of income is the street-level distribution of drugs
  • The Latin King colors are Black and Gold; gang markings consist of a 5 or 3-point "sacred crown.
  • The Latin Kings have a hierarchical organizational structure.
  • In New York City, the Latin Kings are organized into individual "Tribes."

  • The Bloods are a primarily, African American street gang
  • Founded in California
  • They are identified by the red color worn by their members
  • Bloods recruit heavily among school-age youth
  • Gang membership offers youth a sense of belonging and protection

  • They like to wear sports clothing, including team jackets
  • The most commonly used Bloods symbols include the number “5"
  • Once a person has joined a Blood set, it is for life, one can not leave the set
  • The majority of set members are called “soldiers,”
  • Soldiers have a strong sense of commitment to their set

  • Originated in Los Angeles and has spread to U.S
  • The majority of the gang is ethnically composed of Central Americans
  • They are notorious for their use of violence
  • Many Mara Salvatrucha members cover themselves in tattoos.

TRINITARIOS

  • The Trinitarios or 3ni are a violent New York-based
  • Form by chapters in all five boroughs of New York City
  • Trinitario= Trinity Brotherhood in Spanish
  • Trinitarios are well known for their use of machete
  • Also well known for , recruiting members from high schools

CRIPS

CRIPS

  • The Crips are a primarily, but not exclusively, African-American gang
  • The Crips has an estimated 30,000 to 35,000 members
  • Crips traditionally refer to each other as Cuzz
  • Crips are also conform into sets
  • Crips also have their majority members from schools
