what is the Gang of Four

• The Gang of Four was a organization built from Mao wife
• Goal was to not change china and to keep it how it is as an ideology
• They were a group of communist that we're supported from the communist youth league and other big cities
• They wanted power and to be the next leader in china

Why the Gang of Four was made

• wanted to continue the political struggle to ensure that china followed a "correct" revolutionary line
• removing from power "moderates" or "reactionaries" who fav introducing capitalist mechanism
• wanted to involve the Chinese people in decision making
• believed decision should be made based on what's good for the revolution
• everyone do manual labour to keep in touch with people

WHEN AND WHERe

• during the cultural revolution in November 1966
• It was formed in China by the time Mao was seriously ill

WEAKNESS

• weakens not very strong
• power base was mainly within the cultural and media organizations
• little support in the party or in the Peoples Liberation Army
• Mao supported his wife but later on started to go against her

strength

• they were Mao's strongest supporters during the cultural revolution
• wether they were controlled by him or wether they were increasingly imposing their views on him-was unclear
