Illinois is home to the 'Sears' Tower the 2nd tallest building in the U.S. It stands 1,729 ft tall. It is not only the continent's tallest building but is also a tourist option with attractions like the "The Ledge" a glass observation balcony on the - get this - 103rd floor of the building.

The world's first Skyscraper was built in Chicago.

Illinois also was the first state to agree with the no slavery law.

The first McDonald's was built in Des Plaines Illinois, by the McDonald brothers (Yes there last names were actually McDonald) Mack and Richard. Later the franchise was expanded by a man named Kroc who wanted to expand the franchise nationwide. The Mcdonald brothers didn't really approve but he convinced them that he would take all the blame if it failed. But it didn't and McDonald's is now one of the most popular fast food chains in the country.
