Frida Khalo was born on July 6,1907 in Coyocan, a small town outside of Mexico City, where she grew up. Khalo began making art at age six after she was diagnosed with a leg disease. She did not go to school for art. She was inspired by her Mexican Culture.

Self portrait of Frida Khalo

Artwork
Khalo made very realistic and detailed artwork. The backgrounds of her paintings are usually plain and simple such as a sky or clouds, but sometimes they are very colorful and unique. Her paintings are very unique because she is very different and expressive in her work. Her work is filled with Mexican Culture, expressive, strange, and unique.

My Artist Statement
I am going to outline my face in pencil and then color it with either colored pencils or water colors. My inspiration will be my face. I will make my portrait expressive like Frida Khalo. I will do this by making my portrait almost dream like.
