BIOGRAPHY

  • Name: Magdalena Carmen Frida Kahlo y Calderón.
  • Born: July 6, 1907 in her parents house known as La Casa Azul in Coyoacan. Died: July 13, 1954 in Mexico City , Mexico.
  • Occupation: painter
  • She had three sisters: Matilde, Adriana and Cristina.

EDUCATION AND LOVE LIFE

  • In 1922 she enrolled at the National Preparatory School.
  • That same year, Mexican muralist Diego Rivera went to work on a project at the school called The Creation.
  • Kahlo and Rivera reconnected in 1928 and got married a year later.

HOW SHE STARTED

  • Frida and her boyfriend Alex Gómez Arias where in an accident when the bus they were in crashed leaving her in a bad condition.
  • It was while she was confined to bed that Frida began to paint. Frida had a mirror hung over her bed so she could use her reflection as a subject for portraits.

OTHER FACTS

  • Frida had one leg thinner than the other which she covered by wearing long skirts.
  • She gave her first self-portrait to her boyfriend Alex after the accident on September 17, 1925. Who she dated before Diego.
  • Her beloved home The Blue House was opened as a museum in 1958.
