BRANDENBURG CONCERTO NO. 3 (BACH)

  • Melody is passed from one section to the next
  • Mrs. Caballero is playing with them, no conductor
  • Smooth transitions between dynamics
  • Had trouble with fast string crossings
  • One violin's sound stood out in weaker parts

O COME, O COME EMMANUEL (NAUGHTIN)

  • So beautiful, my favorite Philharmonic piece
  • Great vibrato from all sections
  • Feels perfect for holiday season
  • It sounds beautiful, but also sad in a way
  • Crazy good dynamic change

TROIKA FROM LT. KIJE SUITE (PROKOFIEV)

  • Nice incorporation of brass instruments
  • Has a very Christmas-y sound
  • Scribes make up a story about a lieutenant to the Czar
  • Could make it sound better with more accentuation
  • Sometimes theres purposely ugly chords

SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA

SERENADE FOR STRINGS IN E MINOR, OP. 20 (ELGAR)

  • No conductor for such a hard piece!
  • It was like watching a movie with the 3 movements
  • Sounds like a love/tragedy/war story
  • Very happy, excited, forte, then mournful and piano
  • Very nice violin solo, you can tell she worked hard on it

SYMPHONY NO. 8 "UNFINISHED" (SCHUBERT)

  • They played the "Allegro Moderato" which was amazing
  • Very creepy and dark sounding beginning like Swan Lake
  • Huge pause, then...BOOM!
  • Fantastic dynamics and great, fluid chords
  • Great use of woodwinds and brass

BELLS OF CHRISTMAS (KROGSTAD)

  • I loved it b/c its basically every holiday song ever
  • It changed many up with adding some jazz
  • Very upbeat and people were singing along
  • The full orchestra sounds amazing
  • Heavy incorporation of percussion which makes it interesting

STILLE NACHT (DAVIS & CUSTER)

  • All orchestras were lined up on the stairs
  • A soulful Silent Night w/ piano and cello solos
  • Very peaceful, I think I saw someone crying
  • Again, no conductor! Cool! And you can hear santa!
  • Kept a pianissimo to mezzopiano the whole song
