Quote:"It's a hard life, and you wouldn't have much of a childhood...you wouldn't have much of a childhood anyway." This represents that Ender and his days of a childhood freedom are taken away and he is now confined from the rest of the world to the outer reaches of space.
Event:When Ender is sent to battle school. He is confined because he is sent into outer space, seperated from his family, and isolated by his commander.
Quote:"No one could see them anymore, and so no one would come to Ender's rescue." These were advantages from the monitor being taken away which made him less concealed and more independent.
Quote:"Human beings are free except when humanity needs them." This quote shows that Commander Graff is literally telling Ender that he is no longer free because they need him for others freedom.
Quote:"Listen, Ender, commanders have just as much authority as you let them have. The more you obey them, the more power they have over you." Ender has as much freedom as others all around, but more freedom you begin to deny, you are more vulnerable to become confined.
Quote: "Galling, and yet he had no choice. No choice about anything. Well it was Bonzo's own fault, for giving Ender an unreasonable order." No matter how much he didn't want to do it, or how crazy it sounded, Ender knew he had to follow Bonzo's orders.
Quote: "But orders were orders, and Ender had promised to obey." Similar to the last slide, Ender is forced to do whatever he is told to do without disobedience.
Event: After Ender returns to Earth from battle school, he is given back some of his freedom. Graff gives Ender some leniency, by allowing him to do whatever he wants while at the house.
Quote: "Welcome to the human race. Nobody controls his own life, Ender. The best you can do is choose to fill the roles given to you by good people, by people who love you." After Ender goes back to Earth, after the war with the buggers is over, and after he is finished taking orders, he is still confined in the real world, but has the choice to do the right thing, for the right people.
Quote: "Humanity does not ask us to be happy. It mearly asks us to be brilliant on it's behalf." Every human being has the freedom to choose wether to feel, but there is always a right and a wrong. And we have the freedom to choose where we end up.
