GREATEST WORK

One of his best known books he wrote was called Dune. It was a book about Paul Atreides who lived in a society 20,000 years in the future when humanity had become an interstellar race governed by an emperor and noble houses and had discovered Melange, a precious drug. Dune became the most popular novel in science ficton and sold over 12 million copies. Making the book however took six years of research and his novel got rejected 20 times by publishers. Critics did not understand his concept on religion or political aspects of the story and so he had to brainstorm again to get his picture right to audiences. When his first book gained attendtion, he decided to wrtie sequels on Dune in which he wrote 6 novels in total.

Significance

Frank Herbert is important in our society today because he took science fiction on a whole different level. He made it so fascinating and took a different scope on how fiction works. He was so engaged in reading that he wanted to make his own ideas. He dedicated his life to making his novels so interesting that it became a success for his career.

Personal reaction

Personally my reaction is that I think Frank Herbert was an inspiring person and that you should never give up on your goals, even if others reject you. He knew what his idea was at the beginning but he had trouble explaining it. He had struggles with Dune but never gave up on it after six full years.

WHAT INFLUENCES A WRITER TO CREATE?

When a writer has an idea that’s so extraordinary , he would bring that idea to life and create a story about it. So the thing the influences a writer to create was idea so that he can put it in his own words and bring it to life.

Education

Education is no substitute for intelligence.

In his view, education had nothing to do with intelligence. Frank Herbert perceived intelligence as wisdom gotten through observation and analysis of the world around you. According to his son, Frank never learned what did not interest him; this led to him leaving the University of Washington.

Knowledge

Belief can be manipulated. Only knowledge is dangerous.

Frank Herbert always believed that religion played a crucial part in control. Frank Herbert stressed how politics played a role in religion. He also stated that knowledge could be liberating yet deadly.
