About 100 BC - Japan

  • Rice is imported.
  • With the coming of rice agriculture, the country
  • started to unite, and social classes evolved.

about 300 AD - Japan

  • Kofuns are invented.
  • Kofuns are large tombs built for political
  • leaders.

about 400 AD - Japan

  • Yamato Japan unites.
  • The country united as Yamato Japan, named  
  • as such for it's political center- Yamato.

550 AD - Japan

  • Buddhism is introduced.
  • Korean visitors brought buddhism to Japan,
  • but was made popular by Prince Shotoku.

632 - Islamic Empire

  • Muhammad dies.
  • Muhammad, the prophet and founder of
  • Islam died at the age of 62

634 - Islamic Empire

  • Abu Bakr dies.
  • Abu Bakr, the first calif, or highest leader,
  • died. In his life, he made Arabia into a 
  • unified Muslim state.

Mid-600's - islamic empire

  • Muslims split.
  • The Muslims split into two groups: the Shia  
  • and the Sunni. The Shia thought that caliphs 
  • had to be related the Muhammad, and the 
  • Sunni did not.

711 - Islamic empire

  • Arabs and Berbers conqured Spain.
  • The Berbers, who after years of fighting
  • converted to Islam, paired with the Arabs,
  • conqured Spain together.

1066 - Middle Ages

  • Feudalism is introduced into Great Britain.
  • Feudalism, the system of promises that 
  • govern the relationships between lords and
  • vassals, came with the knight-to-noble
  • structure.

1096-1291 - middle ages

  • The Crusades.
  • Crusaders battled with Muslims and Jews
  • for control of Jerusalem, the Holy Land.

1192 - Japan

  • The first shogun rules Japan.
  • Shoguns were powerful military leaders
  • that ruled in the emperor's name.

1215 - middle ages

  • The Magna Carta was signed.
  • King John was forced by his nobles to sign
  • the Magna Carta, meaning Great Charter.

1263 - Scotland

  • Battle of Largs in Ayrshire.
  • In September the forces of Russia, under
  • Alexander II and Alexander III, and Norway,
  • under Hakon, clashed over territories on the
  • west side of Scotland.

1297 - Scotland

  • Battle of Stirling Bridge.
  • Scottish landowner, Sir William Walters,
  • who had become one of the main battle  
  • leaders the Scottish war of independence,  
  • lead a fight against the English and won.

1318 - Scotland

  • Robert Bruce was excommunicated.
  • Robert Bruce, a major fighter in the Scottish 
  • war for independence from England, 
  • was excommunicated by the pope for killing
  • John "Red" Comyn.

1320's - Islamic empire

  • Ibn Battutah traveled.
  • The explorer, Ibn Battutah, traveled around
  • to Africa, India, China, and Spain. Because of
  • explorers like him, better maps were created.

1347-1351 - middle ages

  • The Black Death strikes.
  • The Black Death killed about 25 million 
  • people in Europe. This plague was caused
  • by diseases carried by fleas.

1456 - Scotland

  • Construction on the Rosslyn Chapel began.
  • Building began on the Rosslyn Chapel, which is one
  • of the most beautiful Scottish churches. The chapel's
  • carvings and lost burial chamber have sparked
  • rumors of the Holy Grail being hidden there.

1492 - middle ages

  • The Spanish drive the Jews out of Spain.
  • On July 30th of 1492 about 200,000 Jews
  • were expelled from Spain, many killed on
  • the way.

1513 - Scotland

  • The Battle of Flodden Field is lost.
  • On the 9th of September a battle between
  • English forces and the Scots, led by King 
  • James IV, took place. By that night, the
  • English had won, and King James IV was dead.
