  • Loss of essential materials
  • Less people don't get the right amount of food
  • 17% of our overall garbage is food

HOW IT AFFECTS PLANTS/ANIMALS

  • If compost is not mature, it can cause chemical burns
  • May compete with them for the use of soil nitrogen
  • Harms animals lower on the food chain
  • May be unhealthy to some animals to ingest it

FIVE SOLUTIONS

  • Take less amounts of foods at a time
  • Give food scraps to farmers
  • Use for composting
  • Give food to give away to people
  • Eat leftovers

HOW IT AFFECTS THE ENVIRONMENT

  • Loss of natural resources used to produce the food
  • Energy and resources that go into producing the food is watsted
  • Organic waste breaks down in landfills and causes production of methane

Results:
For a week of dinner at my house, approx. 10 pounds of food was wasted. Usually four people eat in my family producing about two maybe three pounds of food waste a night.
