PRESENTATION OUTLINE
Fluency is the ability to read a text accurately and quickly
Fluency bridges the gap between word recognition and comprehension
Fluency develops over time and through practice
With fluency, students are able to extract meaning and create connections
Fluency changes based on what the student is reading, their familiarity with words and the amount of their practice with reading text
Reading fluency can be developed by modeling fluent reading and by having students engage in repeated oral reading
Fluency should be practiced with independent level text where they miss no more than 1 of 20 words
