A joist is any of the small timbers or metal beams ranged parallel from wall to wall in a structure to support a floor or ceiling

The most commom measurments of joist spacings are 12", 16", and 24". The amount of weight that needs to be supported is a major factor

Relationship to building:
Floor joists are crucial for any building. They are used to support floors and a house couldnt stand without them.

The most common joist spacings are 12",16", and 24". The amount of weight that needs to be supported is a huge factor on what size joist you use.
