WHAT DOES A FLOOD LOOK LIKE?

  • A flood is like a giant swimming pool throughout the land.
  • Floods flood the city,and sometimes they can get higher than cars!

WHAT CAUSES A FLOOD?

  • Heavy rain fall causes the ground to soak up rain water until it can hold no more it will overflow causing a flood.
  • Also a flood is caused when a dam breaks.
  • Rain or melting snow can cause a river to overflow.
  • Hurricanes blow sea water into land causing a flood.

HOW DOES THIS DISASTER AFECT PEOPLE?

  • Water can sweep away people and cars.
  • Floods wash away roads,bridges and homes.
  • Wet wood rots in homes causing mold called bangrus.
  • You can get diseases from dirty water.

WHAT CAN PEOPLE DO TO PROTECT THEMSELVES?

  • People go to high ground during a flood.
  • never drive on flooded roads.
  • People Send clean water to the flooded area.
  • Scientists use radar to predict a flood.
  • People use sand bags to keep water away from buildings.
