Flappers "threw away" the image of a typical woman. They were energetic and rebellious and weren't afraid to test the limits.

Flappers liberated women of the time period to enjoy being a woman and do what they wanted.

The women from the city that attended parties at Gatsby's were flappers. The women that lived outside of the city generally we're not.
