BLEVE

  • Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapor Explosion
  • Happens when an LP tank is surrounded by heat, it expands, and explodes

SCBA

  • Self Contained Breathing Apparatus
  • Helps firefighters breathe when they are in a fire

PPE

  • Personal Protective Equipment
  • Consists of a coat, helmet, gloves, SCBA, Air Tank, Overalls w/ boots, goggles, & a Mask
  • It protects a firefighter while they are fighting a fire

GPM

  • Gallons Per Minute
  • Means how many gallons of water flows per minute

PSI

  • Pounds per Square Inch
  • How much pressure is contained per square inch

  • Fire needs oxygen, fuel, heat, and a chemical chain reaction to start.

FLOW FORMULA'S

  • Iowa Formula-LxWxH divided by 100
  • Water Flow-LxW divided by 3 times % of involvement
  • Formulas that tell firefighters how much water to distibute onto a fire

  • Caused when smoke or fumes from surrounding object suddenly ignite.

  • An explosive surge in a fire when sudden air mixes with a combustible gas.

FIRE HYDRANTS

  • Used if a fire truck runs out of water.
  • Or if there is no available water source near the site of the fire
