- This book was written by Niel Shusterman
Main Characters pt.1
- Connor Lassiter is a trouble maker who gets sent to be unwound but escapes and finds himself on the run. Not just for his life but for his friends that he collects along the way.
- Risa was a StaHo child and never experienced love and affection from a parent but she definantly learned how to take care of herself. Her ability to take care of herself gets her a long way in this story.
Main Characters pt.2
- Levi is a very religious character and has lived his whole life knowing he was going to get tithed(or "donated" to the unwinders) but as fate would have it he is taken from his car on his way to be unwound by a very pshycotic boy who changes lev and makes him into a different person. A person who breaks rules and who can take care of himself. Connor does this partially with the help of Risa.
Main Characters pt.3
- CyFi is an umber character who received a part of the brain from a troubled thief named Tyler as we are introduced to Cy we slowly learn he has issues controlling whose actions run his body.He sometimes gets urges to steal things just as Tyler would have.When Cy finds Levi he teaches him a lot and then he travels to Tyler's home town and Cy undigs the things Tyler had stolen.The lessons Cy teaches Levi shape him dramatically into the person he is at the end of the novel.
Main Characters pt.4
- Roland Is a strong and power hungry unwind who goes to extreme lengths to insure he is in control.Roland gets unwound at the end of the book and his arm and eye go to the injured connor lassiter.
- Hayden was an ex unwind who escaped and wanted to get back at the Harvest Camps so he becomes a clapper and he wreakes havoc on the Happy Jack Camp and sparks the fire which exposes the cruel nature of unwinding.
Minor Characters
- Hayden was an ex unwind who escaped.He belonged to a wealthy family and he bonded well with Connor in the shack under the antique shop.
- Mai is a former unwind who met Vincent who she loved and when he died she got so mad she formed a plan with Lev and Blaine to blow up a harvest camp so they become clappers and pretty much destroyed the Happy Jack Camp.
Minor Characters pt.2
- Pastor Dan is Levs priest and he tells lev to run off with connor.
- The Admiral is the father of Humphrey Dunfee. He also houses unwinds and has the hopes of finding every person who was once his son and getting them in the same place.
Protagonists
- Connor, Risa, and Lev are the protagonists and we follow their stories until they meet as they are escaping and at the harvest camp.
Antagonists
- Roland, The admiral, Juvey cops, and police officers are all opposing the main characters in the story.
Major Events
- One major event is when Connor picks up the baby and they keep it.
- Another huge event is when Connor traps Roland in the box and forces him to confess killing the three goldens.
- My third major event is when Connor shoots the juvey cop with his own taser because it gives him some of Risas's respect and earns him some reputation as the Akron AWOL
Setting
- The characters jump all around in the book but the major spots are Connors hometown,a state ward facillity, Levs party, the freeway, the forest, school, the graveyard, Happy Jack Harvest Camp, and Joplin City.
Major Conflicts
- The major conflicts are Connor trying to outsmart and defeat Roland,Connor,Risa,and Lev trying to survive, and having to keep the baby alive.
Resolution
- The resolution ends with Lev sparking debate about the nature of unwinding,Risa getting paralyzed so she cant get unwound, and Connor getting a new identity and being 19 years old so he cant get unwound.
