PRESENTATION OUTLINE
An exaggeration which may be used for emphasis and humor. Hyperboles are used in speaking and writing for effect or to make a boring story more interseting.
EXAMPLES
-- I have a million things to do.
-- I had to walk 15 miles to school in the snow, uphill.
-- I had a ton of homework.
-- If I can’t buy that new game, I will die.
-- He is as skinny as a toothpick.
-- This car goes faster than the speed of light.
Alliteration is a term that describes a literary stylistic device. Alliteration occurs when a series of words in a row (or close to a raw) have the same first consonant sound.For example ,”She sells sea –shells down by the sea – shore” or “ Peter Piper Picked a Peck of Pickled Peppers” are both alliterative phrases. In the former, all the words start with the “s” sound, while in the later, the letter “p” takes precedence. Aside from tongue twisters, alliteration is also used in poems, song lyrics, and even store or brand names.

2. The child bounced the ball at the backyard barbeque.
3. The barbarians broke through the barricade.
4.The captain couldn’t keep the men in the cabin.
5. Erin cooked cupcakes in the kitchen.
Onomatopoeia is defined as a word,which imitates the natural sounds o a thing.It creates a sound effect that mimics the things described, making the describtion more expressive and interesting.
1.The dishes fell to the floor with a clatter.
2. Nothing annoys me more than rapidly clicking your pen.
3.The bride and groom were not surprised to hear the familiar sound of clinking glasses.
4.The horse’s hooves clip-clopped on the cobblestones.
5.Those clucking chickens are driving me crazy!
A rhyme occurs when two or more words have similar sounds. Typically , this happens at the end of the words, but this isn’t always the case.
1.Mary had a little lamb its fleece was white as snow;
2.And everywhere that Mary went, the lamb was sure to go.
3.It followed her to school one day, which was against the rule;
4.It made the children laugh and play, to see a lamb at school.
5.And so the teacher turned it out, but still it lingered near,
An understatement is a figure of speech employed by writers or speaker deliberately makes a situation seem less important or serious than it is.
1."Deserts are sometimes hot, dry and sandy” while describing deserts of the world.
2.“He is not too thin” while describing an obese person.
3.“It rained a bit more than usual” while describing an area being flooded after heavy rainfall.
