Figurative Language

LANGUAGE that communicates meaning beyond the literal Term.

Simile

a comparison between 2 unlike things using the words like/as.

Metaphor

compares 2 things that are unlike but have something in common.

personification

HUMAN QUALITIES ARE GIVEN TO AN OBJECT, ANIMAL, OR IDEA.

hyperbole

the truth is exaggerated for emphasis or HUMOROUS effects.

internal conflict

a problem that occurs within a character.

External Conflict

Problem that happens with a character and the outside forces.

foreshadowing

hints or clues to suggest events that will occur in the future.

allusion

indirect reference to a famous person, place, event, or literary work.

dialogue

written conversation between 2 or more characters.

imagery

DESCRIPTIVE words and phrases that recreate sensory EXPERIENCES for reader.
