MAIN FUNCTIONS

  • Produce eggs

Female Reproductive System

OVARY

- Produce, store, and release eggs into the fallopian tubes in the process called ovulation.
- Oval-shaped organs that lie to the upper right and left of the uterus.

FALLOPIAN TUBES

- Connects the ovaries to the uterus.
- Where the egg is fertilized.
- Tiny hairs push the egg down to the uterus.

UTERUS

- Shaped like an upside-down pear.
- Muscles expand/contract to push the baby out.
- Only about 3 inches long & 2 inches wide.

CERVIX

- It has strong thick walls.
- The opening is no wider than a straw.
- Expands during labor for the baby to pass.

Cervical Dialation

VAGINA

- Where the penis is inserted during sex.
- It is a birth canal.
- Where blood leaves the body during periods.
