FBI AGENT

WHAT IS THE FBI?

  • The FBI does not only stand for Federal Bureau of Investigation, it also stands for fidelity, bravery, and integrity.
  • They are a governmental agency within the United States Department of Justice.

The purpose of the FBI is to protect and serve the communities in the U.S. and to uphold law.

WHAT DOES AN AGENT DO

  • An FBI agent is responsible for investigating over 200 different violations that involve national security and criminal law.
  • Also, agents execute warrants, and once arresting the offender, they testify against them in a federal court.

LOCATION AND POSITIONS OF THE FBI

  • The FBI has 56 field offices located throughout the U.S.A, and have an additional 400 smaller resident agencies.
  • The job positions of an agent are very basic. You start off as an agent, then eventually a supervisor, special agent in charge, and then a FBI director.

-Being an FBI entails long hours. An agent is regulated to work a 10 hour day and has a starting salary of $64,000.
-The projected growth for the position of the FBI and Police is 5% from 2012-2022.

EDUCATION

  • You must obtain a 4 year college degree.
  • Colleges that have excellent Criminal Justice programs are Michigan State and Indiana University-North West.

RETIREMENT AND BENEFITS

  • An agent can retire at the age of 50, with twenty years of service and are forced to retire at 57 years old.
  • Benefits with the career include health benefits, and life insurance. Also if injured in the line of duty agents are eligible for the Compensation a Act.

BECOMING AN AGENT

  • First you go through the application process, then a interview, polygraph test, a medical test, and finally a background check
  • After completing these phases a prospect attends the training camp in Quantico.

CONCLUSION

  • I would like to be an FBI agent, because it is a risky career, but at the end of the day it is rewarding.
