FAST FOOD CHICKEN

HOW HENS HAVE BEEN MODIFIED, RAISED AND ISSUES FACED

People don't usually think about what they're actually eating at fast food restaurants, they only think about how good it's going to taste. Little do they know that what they're eating has been modified and additives have been inserted. They also don't know the suffer that animals go through before they're set on your plate. Especially chickens. Chickens are arguably the most abused animals on the planet. Also the most popular.

Ways fast food chickens have been modified

BROILER HENS

  • Broiler hens(killed for meat) have been genetically selected so that now they are almost double the size they were 60 years ago
  • Broiler hens' breasts are now 80% larger than they were
  • They manage to reach full size in 6 weeks whereas it took the birds in the 50s 15 weeks

LAYING HENS

  • Laying hens ( bred to lay eggs) have been so dramatically altered that can lay more than 250 eggs per year while ancestors could only lay two dozen
  • Forced molting is used to trick hens into higher egg production by being forced to into darkness for eight days and denied old and water

Ways The Chickens Suffer

WAYS THE CHICKENS SUFFER

  • 90% of broiler chickens are unable to work properly because the bones and muscles n their legs are unable to carry their weight
  • Laying hens have their beaks cut off so they don't peck at each other
  • Laying hens are kept in cages smaller than a piece of paper

Diseases They Suffer

DISEASES

  • Since the the hens are kept over enormous manure pits, the hens Suffer skin diseases and respiratory diseases
  • Since the hens are kept on mesh cages, they suffer injuries to their feet

Conclusion

Chickens are treated terrible, to produce meat for us, the consumers. All their rights as animals are stripped and they are left as machines, producing what we want. I believe we should stand together and make sure this mistreatment of animals for fast food chains should stop.
