HAIRSTYLES

BOBBED HAIR STYLES PROBABLY THE BIGGEST FACTOR IN GIVING THE SHORT HAIR FASHION RENEWED LIFE AND VIGOR.

HAIRSTYLES

shingle bob. a short hairstyle for women, introduced in 1924. Below a dome-shaped bob cut, the hair at the neck is razor cut very short in a v-shape.

BANDED DRESSES

1920's banded at hips, long strands of pearls, hat pulled down covering eyebrows, hair in very simple flip style.

SEWING PATTERN DRESSES

In the 1920's many women wore dresses with different sewing patterns and designs made with a treadle sewing machine.

EYE WEAR

Horn rimmed glasses were very famous in the 1920's. Originally made out of either horn or tortoise shell.

SHOES

T- Bar shoes for women were popular because you could dance without them slipping off .

THE TRILBY HAT

A trilby is a narrow-brimmed fedora. The trilby was once viewed as the rich man's favored hat.

GIRDLES

a garment that encircles the lower torso, perhaps extending below the hips, and worn often for support. The word girdle originally meant a belt.

Galoshes

a type of rubber boot that is slipped over shoes to keep them from getting muddy or wet.

BLUSH

Powder blushes became more popular after the invention of spill-proof containers and the compact.

It was available in salve, liquid, and stick forms, and long-lasting, indelible stains were the most popular.

MASCARA

Petroleum jelly (Vaseline) was mixed with soot or coal. The resulting solution was a dark gel that was then applied to the lashes with a fine brush.

HANDBAGS

The “pochette,” a type of handle-less clutch, which women would tuck under their arms to give them an air of nonchalant youth.

“knickers” were the popular daywear for any well dressed man in the twenties & can be worn with Norfolk coats and golf coats

MEN'S OXFORDS

Black patent-leather shoes were popular during this era and often appeared with formal evening wear.

SUITS

suits had traditionally been broad-shouldered, they were now cut to give men a more slim, boyish look.

TROUSERS

men began wearing wide, straight-legged trousers with their suits. These trousers normally measured 23 inches around the cuff.
