CHRISTOPHER MARLOWE

  • Christopher Marlowe was born on February 26, 1564 and died May 30, 1593
  • One of Marlowe's most popular plays is Doctor Faustus
  • Doctor Faustus was published in 1604, twelve years after Marlowe's death
  • The play is about a German scholar who sells his soul to the devil in
  • exchange for power and a book of knowledge

FRANCIS BEAUMONT AND JOHN FLETCHER

  • Beaumont and Fletcher started collaborating around the year 1607
  • The duo wrote about 50 plays in the 6 years they worked together
  • Their most famous play is called Knight of the Burning Pestle which was published 1613
  • Knight of the Burning Pestle is about a knight named Rafe and the events leading up to his death

THOMAS MIDDLETON

  • Thomas Middleton was born on April 18, 1580 and died in 1627
  • One of his most well known plays is A Game at Chess which was published
  • in 1624. A Game at Chess was one if the last plays in the Elizabethan Era
  • The play is about a woman who is desperately trying to get romantically involved
  • with the king no matter how hard he pushes her away

THOMAS KYD

  • Thomas Kyd was born on November 6, 1558 and died Augest 15, 1594
  • One of Kyd's most popular plays is called The Spanish Tragedy which was published in 1592
  • The Spanish Tragedy is a play about revenge. It starts with the ghost of a man named Don Andrea
  • who was killed in a battle promising that he will see his revenge by the end of the play

BEN JONSON

  • Ben Jonson was born on June 11, 1572 and died August 6, 1637
  • Jonson's most popular play is Catiline His Conspiracy which was published
  • 1611
  • The play is about a man named Catiline who plans on overthrowing the
  • Roman Republic by manipulating every member without them realizing.
