PRESENTATION OUTLINE
1.
BALEARIC ISLAND CAVE GOAT
Was a species of goat that lived on the Islands of Majorca and Minorca.
It went extinct around 5000 years ago.
It was more closely related to sheep than it was to goats.
There eyes were not directed towards the side like most herbivore mammals.
Instead there eyes are directed forwards giving them better depth perception.
2.
EVOLUTION
This goat did not have eyes facing out because the islands it lived on they had no natural predators.
It having no predators to worry about meant it lost its natural fear of predation.
Also it had short legs because it didn't have to worry about escaping predators.
The goats also became small because they were on an island which has limited space and vegetation.
It was a browser instead of a grazer like modern goats.
