WOOLLY MAMMOTH

  • species of mammoth, the common name for the extinct elephant genus Mammuthus.
  • 10,000 years or so ago their numbers began to dwindle
  • Climate change and humans hunting were two of the causes of the extinction.

SABER- TOOTHED CAT

  • also misleadingly known as a saber-toothed tiger
  • found worldwide from the Eocene epoch to the end of the Pleistocene epoch (42 mya – 11,000 years ago)
  • existing for about 42 million years
  • The large maxillary canine teeth extended from the mouth even when it was closed.
  • Sabre-toothed tigers are believed by mainstream scientists to have become extinct mainly because their climate was ever changing.

GREAT AUK

  • was a flightless bird of the alcid family that became extinct in the mid-19th century.
  • It was the only modern species in the genus Pinguinus
  • 3 July 1844 the last confirmed two were killed off the Coast of Iceland.
  • Went extinct because it was hunted for food and bait.
